What is Microblading?
Microblading - an old fashioned way of tattooing. It’s accomplished by creating a series of fine incisions in the skin throughout the brow.
These go about .5 to .75 mm into the skin, in what’s called the epidermal/dermal junction, after that pigment is rubbed on the top. Just like and old fashioned poke tattoos this method requires a hand tool with 18 - 19 tiny needles and may date back thousands of years, but the trend towards using the technique for eyebrows is thought to have emerged in Asia within the last 25 years. there are many different factors to consider when working on brows. The intended shape of a brow, the ink used, the oiliness of the client's skin, and the technical abilities of the artist are all very real and important factors in the outcome of the treatment. All of these factors rest on the shoulders of the artist.
In the end, we have found that disasters are directly correlated to inexperience. I cannot tell you how many people are now calling themselves instructors and running classes on microblading when they themselves have less than one year experience! This leads to a flock of inexperienced and miseducated “microblading artists” that are now providing services to the unknowing consumer. Keep in mind that to be certified in microblading you must be an apprentice for at least 6 months. Many of these supposed artist’s are taking a 2-day course and then making promises of perfect results on your brows!
I highly recommend you make sure to do your research. Remember, cheaper isn’t always better. Be educated about your brow artist before you take the plunge. It’s your face, you work tirelessly daily to make sure it is presentable.

After years of research and our own experience of healed results on different skin types, Feather Touch Studio won't recommend or offer Microblading services. Due to poor quality of healed results and a lot of common contraindications only a few people are really good candidates for the microblading procedure.
We feel that modern alternatives to Microblading such as Digital Blading, Powder Brows, Ombre, Combination techniques are a lot less invasive has a lot less risk of scarring as a result - faster healing and long-lasting results.
Ombre Brows
During the time microblading was really popular in Asia, a newer and more advanced technique called Ombré Powder Brows was developing in Europe.
Ombre & Powder Brows differ from traditional way of tattooing in the debth. During Ombre Powder Brows procedure application is done on the epidermis layer of the skin. The name of technique says for itself, soft powdery front and dark tail resembles the look of makeup. This technique is perfect for people who love makeup look without any extra hustle. The results will normally last up to 2 years.

So, why has ombré powder brow become so popular ?
-
LESS INVASIVE: Ombré powder brows are achieved using a small machine, which disperses extremely fine dots of pigments even into and across the skin in an airbrush or shading technique. VS Microblading uses a hand-tool that creates incisions or cuts into the skin. Over time, repeated incisions into the same spots will cause trauma to the skin more quickly.
-
LESS PAIN & BLEEDING: Ombré powder brows are less painful due to the airbrush-like technique we apply, which creates less trauma to the skin vs. the blading technique of microblading. The latter also creates cuts into the skin, thus more bleeding is involved.
-
LASTS LONGER: Results do vary based on lifestyle, skin type, health, preferences, etc., but a single ombré powder brows session, using high-quality pigments, can last on average 2-3 years. Microblading, on the other hand, has a high likelihood of healing blotchy, spotty or with blurred strokes, thus requiring more frequent touch-ups, generating more long term wear and tear on the skin, eventually maxing out the skin’s lifetime capacity quickly. Like any injury to the skin, the body repairs the wounded area by building collagen fibers, creating a scar. Both treatments will eventually dull out the skin in this way permanently, so choosing the right method to save your skin integrity is critical.
-
GREAT FOR ALL SKIN TYPES: Ombré powder brows are great for any skin type, unlike microblading, which is not suitable for those with oily skin. Microblading on oily skin requires several touch-ups, which causes more trauma to the skin.
-
STILL LOOKS NATURAL: While ombré powder brows have a more “filled-in” look, the healed results appear like softly shaded brow pencil or powder. Immediately after the treatment, ombré powder brows can appear more saturated and bold, however, brows will fade 20-30%, leaving a very soft finish and shape that will allow our clients to quickly groom their brows going forward.
Soft Powder Brows
Soft Powder Brows - just like Ombre brows, Soft powder brow effect achieved by using a permanent makeup machine which disperses extremely fine dots of pigments even into and across the skin in an airbrush or shading technique.
Soft Powder Brows are a very light powder brow that starts out light and gradually darkens toward the tails. Many times the artist will lightly shade over the hair strokes creating a “pixelated” or “stardust” look.

Soft Powder Brows will be a great technique for people with blonde hair.
The results will normally last up to 2 years.

Digital Blading
Digital Blading is a great solution for those who are recovering from over-tweezed brows. Digital Blading is a more advanced way of creating Hair-like Strokes than old-fashioned Microblading.
During the procedure, we are able to create hair-like strokes using a nanoneedle. Because machine work is less invasive than Microblading and the skin is closed right after the procedure is finished there is a lot less damage to the tissue and more pigment stays in the skin after the healing stage. Machine work does last longer than microblading, and some skin tends to accept pigment better with this application. Machine work is a good option for clients who’s skin does not retain or heal microblading as well as others (oily skin, large pores etc.)
Digital Blading is one of the most favorite techniques of the customers at Feather Touch Studio in Knoxville. We also believe that this Method is how Microblading has to be done in 21st century.
-
No Scarring-this method is very "gentle". It is done by a machine equipped with a fine nanoneedle that allows insert pigment at the right depth with the super high precision and because there is no "cutting" like in Microblading the client can come in indefinitely and have touch ups without fear of scar tissue or skin damage. We've all now seen some cases with Microblading where skin does not "bounce" back and ridges are visible where the blade has scored the skin.
-
More Realistic-You can "connect" the lines with this method thus the final result is more artistic and realistic. This really is a "genuine" brow! In Microblading connecting or crossing the lines is a no-no thus as it may cause deeper cut and blurry strokes.
-
Less Frequent Touch Ups- means less trauma to the skin and more time to go by between appointments.
Combination Brows
Combo brows are the mixture of two the most innovative technics of Digital blading and Soft shading. That’s why we call it a “combo”. You get the best of both techniques with the combo brow.
It allows us to create the perfect brow that for those who have a little brow hair but also want that fuller look.
Strokes of gentle Digital blading can be placed only on the front part of the brow to make the shading look more natural or we can create digital hair-like strokes throughout the whole brow with adding some pixeled shading in between to create a 3D brow (like on the last picture).
The effect will last up to 2 years with minor touch up in 6 - 8 month. Results from combo brow will make you wake up smiling!
Combo brows technique allows us to create many options for the perfect brow. We can simply add some shading to add a bit of density and fullness or we can go all out to give you the perfect “on fleek” set of brows. Combo brow is one of the favorite brows of the Feather Touch Studio as it’s great for all skin types and for those who want a little more than a natural look.
